Jesus takes up His Cross

|
Officiant: We adore thee, O Christ and we praise thee. (genuflect) All: Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world. Officiant: And it was the preparation of the Passover, and about the sixth hour; and he saith unto the Jews, "Behold your King!" But they cried out, "Away with Him! Away with Him! Crucify Him!" Pilate saith unto them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, !"We have no king but Caesar." Then delivered he Him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus and led him away. And He bearing His cross, went forth into a place called the place of the skull, which is called in the Hebrew, Golgotha. (John 19:14-17) All: Who hath believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed? For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and root out a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him. He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and we hid as it were our faces from him; he has despised and we esteemed him not (Isaiah 53:1-3) Let us pray. LORD, thou hast said: Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly of heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Grant that we may be able so to carry it so to obtain Thy saving grace. This we ask of Thee, who liveth and reignest with the Father and the Holy Ghost, one God, world without end. Amen. Sing: Can the human heart refrain From partaking in her pain, In the Mother's pain untold? | |
