Jesus falls for the first time

Officiant: We adore thee, O Christ and we praise thee. (genuflect) All: Because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world. Officiant: If the world hates you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. If ye were of the world, the world would love its own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. (John 15:18-20) All: Wherefore art thou red in thine apparel and thy garments like him that treadeth in the winefat? I have trodden the winepress alone and of the people there was none with me: for I will tread them in mine anger, and trample them in my fury; and their blood shall be sprinkled upon my garments, and I will stain all my raiment. For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come. And I looked, and there was none to help; and I wondered that there was none to uphold: therefore mine own arm brought salvation unto me: and my fury, it upheld me. (Isaiah 63:2-5) Let us pray. O GOD, to free us from sin and weakness Thy Son, Jesus Christ, embraced His fearful passion and crucifixion. Strengthen us in our baptismal resolutions by which we renounced sin and Satan, so that through the passion of this life's sufferings we might rise to a new life in Thee. Amen.
